Design and installation of a small cogeneration plant (0.5 MW), with a very low investment required, included in the complete renovation of all energy services inside the hospital center, removing old superheated water boilers, installing new sanitary hot water accumulators and creating an Energy Comission that analysed all possible energy saving sources and consumer education.
On the one hand, the plant generated significant savings in electricity costs because not only saved costs in electricity invoices, proportional to the electricity production, but also reduced significantly the fixed charge associated to the contracted power. On the other hand, it ensures a steam production of 4 t/h, enough for major part of the year, avoiding the high priced fuel consumption because in the commercial sector fuel prices are substantially higher than in the industrial sector.
