AESA carried out an assessment of the availability and quality of the biogas, which was produced from anaerobic digestion of sewage sludge of Damm’s brewing plant in El Prat de Llobregat (Barcelona).

The biogas produced is a residual waste that should be removed to continue its production process. This removal may be performed by incineration, by torches or using it as fuel. In all cases its removal must be guaranteed, that is why AESA analyzed the following points:

• Evaluation of the available power from biogas to drive equipment and determination of the plant’s size.
• Comparison between two available technologies for biogas usage: engines and microturbines.
• Presentation of the legal framework affecting biogas power generation plants and the legal requirements that must be filled out to obtain the necessary permits.
