In 1996, was installed an 8.82 MWe cogeneration plant in simple cycle with afterburning, composed of two lines of gas turbine-HRSG, allowing the generation of 21 t/h of steam at 17 bar(g) in each line. Each line was sized to cover all thermal demands of the factory in order to maximize reliability in heat supply for Sulquisa.

In 2006 it was decided to expand the plant with a third line, identical to the other two existing lines, and the two existing gas turbines were upgraded, achieving a total electrical power of 15 MW.
